Artist Biography
Christos Damianos is an artist, educator, and independent curator. Born in Tripoli, Greece, he immigrated with his family to London, Canada in 1971. He holds a BFA from Western University in London, Ontario, and an MSc from Niagara University in New York. Damianos has taught in
the arts at both the secondary and university levels and maintains a studio practice in York Region (Toronto) and Tripoli, Greece.
Artist Statement
“As an artist, I have always been drawn to the human presence within themes of nature, perception, identity, and communication. Through memory, observation, and media gathered from diverse platforms, I seek to reveal a human presence that is often overlooked or forgotten. Each work emerges through a stream of consciousness process and an exploration of the medium’s physicality. This haptic, sensory engagement becomes a catalyst for reconnecting with personal and collective memories—uncovering experiences and narratives that reside quietly within the simplicity of the medium or the unassuming presence of the work.”

Curatorial Commentary
Damianos’ artistic practice resists linearity and is not confined to a single subject or medium. His recent works examine the human impact on nature and the consequences of environmental neglect, reflecting a sustained concern for ecological issues.
His commitment to environmental awareness began during his artschool years, shaped by treeplanting in northern landscapes and early involvement in art conservation. These formative experiences continue to inform his belief that art can serve as a vehicle for expressing
environmental and societal concerns. His studio practice encourages viewers to engage with both the artwork and the materiality of the medium, fostering an intimate, dynamic connection. Increasingly drawn to abstraction, Damianos explores the natural world through a
contemporary lens, inviting reflection on our evolving relationship with the environment.
