C.P. Cavafy The Collected Poems: New Translation, 2025

This new publication (2025 Arkadia Pub.) is a collaboratioin between  artist Christos Damianos and the translation from Greek of Prof. Demetres P. Tryphonopoulos. Cavafy’s poetry in Greek, brings into dialogue the poetry of C.P. Cavafy and a body of photographs shaped by personal and cultural memory. Cavafy’s work—rich in historical resonance, emotional nuance, and autobiographical insight—offers a lens through which to reconsider the Hellenic world in both its classical and contemporary dimensions. The images arise from lived experience while evoking shared atmospheres of Greek identity, presence, and continuity. My connection to Cavafy is both cultural and personal. Like him, I followed a parallel professional path before dedicating myself fully to art. His devotion to craft and his ability to draw meaning from memory and the marginal continue to inform my practice. Working in monochrome establishes a quiet, reflective space where word and image intersect.
