The Municipal Gallery of Tripoli “F. Tsihridzis” is honored to present the solo exhibition of Christos Damianos titled “Return”.
This exhibition marks one of the first solo presentations hosted in the new space of the Gallery and symbolizes the artist’s return to his place of origin.
Christos Damianos, who divides his life and creative practice between Greece and Canada, draws upon his rich heritage by combining Greek and Canadian cultural elements.
The exhibition is part of the Tripolis Summer Festival 2026
The exhibition “Return” explores the complex relationship between memory, identity, and place, offering the public a unique opportunity to engage in this artistic homecoming.
Through a body of work that reflects the experience of diaspora, Damianos highlights movement and the search for identity. The exhibition title refers to both the physical and emotional return of the artist to Tripoli, as well as the broader cultural narrative of nostos.
The works in this exhibition, with their multidimensional textures and processed surfaces, bear traces of both geographies, suggesting that returning is not simply a restoration but a transformed arrival.

About the Exhibition
Although this is my first solo exhibition in Greece, I am no stranger to exhibiting in Europe. My practice moves seamlessly between places, cultures, and identities. This body of recent work, shaped by my years of living and working between Greece and Canada, reflects both a personal and artistic homecoming for me.
The title "Return" carries multiple layers of meaning. It encapsulates my physical and emotional return to my birthplace while evoking the broader cultural narrative of nostos—the archetypal homecoming expressed through the journey of Odysseus.
Through layered surfaces and material experimentation, I explore themes of place, memory and transformation, reflecting on migration, identity, and the cyclical nature of departure and return. My art embodies a deep connection to time, layering materials to create stories that mimic geological strata, capturing the essence of creation,transformation, and decay. Abstraction in Greek is Αφαίρεση. Literally removal and comes from the verb to subtract, to take away or to eliminate which references my practice of reducing-form and realism.
